The following morning, I left Ka’ana for an experience that combined history, nature and adventure: traveling by horseback to the ancient Maya site of Xunantunich.
Xunantunich is one of Belize’s most significant Maya archaeological sites. Experiencing it as part of an active adventure made the visit even more memorable.
There is something deeply moving about standing among structures created by a civilization whose knowledge, traditions and influence continue to shape Belize. This was not simply an excursion or another landmark to check off a list. It was an opportunity to slow down, listen and appreciate the depth of the country’s history.
Traveling by horseback added another dimension to the experience. It allowed me to connect the surrounding landscape with the history of the site itself.
This is the type of travel I love to design: an experience that brings together activity, education, culture and a genuine sense of place.
